How My Client Still Lost Weight Without Giving Up Alcohol
I'm a firm believer in NOT having to give up your lifestyle in order to be healthy and at a weight that feels good. This goes for the foods, hobbies, workouts, and activities you enjoy.
Some of my clients come to me and know that their drinking might be affecting their weight, but they also don’t want to give it up.
A client was struggling with this so we created a simple plan for her to implement that sets her up before, during and after drinking, so she doesn’t have to go cold turkey but also continues to move in the right direction of her weight loss journey. This past weekend she was able to have such a better experience, even with attending a family bbq and dinners out where she was drinking.
Below are the 5 things my client did to lose weight without giving up alcohol
She focused on hydration and now hydrates before drinking as well as after. I suggested she aim for at least 16-20 ounces of water before bed/ after drinking and to add electrolytes to help replenish a healthy balance of minerals and to better hydrate your body and mind.
She started hydrating while drinking, specifically with club soda or unsweetened ice tea. Because alcohol is dehydrating, it’s important to slip in some form of water between your drinks. Sometimes plain water can be undesirable so my client orders a club soda with fresh lime or an unsweetened ice tea to make it more palatable.
She stopped drinking on an empty stomach and now makes sure to have some form of protein- like 2 hard boiled eggs or a Greek yogurt before drinking and then focuses on protein and fiber while drinking. This might be a salmon poke bowl or a starter salad and then salmon with a veg and a grain.
She chose lower sugar drinks, like vodka or tequila with club soda and lemon or lime... or red or white wine. While the wine has more sugar than the first option, it's much better than choosing a cocktail that has various juices, syrups and added sugar.
She stopped letting one night of drinks set her back and now she wakes up the next day and gets right back to her regularly scheduled program.. like taking her probiotic with 24 ounces of water, having a small protein meal and then fitting in a morning workout.
These little habits and consistent healthy choices allow the space to enjoy life's indulgences.
