You Don’t Have to Eat Less to Lose Weight + See Results

When you’re trying to improve your health, step up your fitness, or manage your weight, it’s easy to fall into the mindset that you need to eat less, cut calories, and restrict.

But the problem with restriction? It often leads to deprivation, hunger, and eventually “falling off track”—which can derail all of your efforts.

Instead of focusing on eating less, let’s talk about eating more strategically.

I talk a lot about protein and fiber when it comes to feeling satisfied, but another strategy I love is incorporating high-volume foods into your meals and snacks.

High-volume foods are foods that allow you to eat a satisfying amount while taking in relatively few calories. They can help make your meals feel more substantial, which can be especially helpful when you’re working toward weight management.

Here are a few of my favorites:

🥚 Egg whites: 1 cup = about 126 calories and 26g of protein. Scramble 2 cups with veggies for a seriously satisfying, protein-packed meal.

🥣 Plain low-fat Greek yogurt: 1 cup = about 150–170 calories and 20–23g of protein. Add berries and a little crunch for an easy breakfast or snack.

🍿 Air-popped popcorn: 3 cups = about 90 calories. That’s a LOT of crunchy, snackable volume for very few calories.

🥒 Cucumber: One whole cucumber = about 45 calories. Add it to salads, dip it in hummus, or slice it up with a little salt when you want something refreshing and crunchy.

🍉 Watermelon: 2 cups = about 90 calories and is mostly water, making it a refreshing and naturally sweet option when you want something satisfying without a lot of calories.

🧀 2% Cottage Cheese: 3/4 cup= 140 calories and 19 grams of delicious protein. Mix it with fruit to keep it light and flavorful.

🍓 Strawberries: 1 cup of strawberries is less than 50 calories and provides the perfect natural sweetness, hence the reason their known as nature’s candy :).

🍤 Shrimp: 3.5 ounces= 99 calories and gives you 24 grams of clean protein making this a great option that you can munch on as a quick snack or toss with some veggies.

🥣 Bone Broth: 16 ounces/ 2cups= around 80 calories and 17 grams of protein, not to mention it’s fabulous for your gut health.

🍇 Frozen Grapes: 1 cup= 100 calories and gives you a sweet, sorbet-like taste with each bite.
