Healthy for the Holidays
The holidays are HERE, and so are the parties, dinners, cookies, drinks…. and maybe a little stress and anxiety.
So this is your friendly reminder that the holidays are meant to be enjoyed, and that includes the food!
If you struggle this time of year with staying healthy while also keeping your sanity and not stressing about your food, worrying about eating too much or eating foods that you don’t normally eat... 1. You're definitely not alone and 2. Here are a few tips to help you have a healthy AND happy holiday season and really every day:
1. Stop, Drop + BREATHE. Stopping to breathe allows us to be more present with ourselves and more mindful with our choices and actions. This will help you say no to something you don't want or need (this could be food or a coffee date!) as well as enjoy whatever you choose to eat.
2. Get away from the all or nothing mentality. No one is perfect, and creating a healthy lifestyle- regardless of what that looks like for you specifically- includes flexibility with your food choices, workout, and habits.
3. Don’t jump on the “let’s not eat all day to save up for the _____” bandwagon. It’s important to eat throughout the day, specifically nutrient-dense, high-protein foods. This will help you avoid beelining to the creamy dips and boards of cheese and allows you to be a bit more mindful and present. It also gives you the space to include more decadent and indulgent foods without feeling the repercussions. It provides more balance and again stops the all or nothing mindset.
4. Put your food on a plate and take your time eating to enjoy it. Instead of picking at all the food spread across a table, plate up what you want to eat and enjoy that. This will help stop mindless eating and help you actually feel more satisfied. * Enjoy a drink with your food to help slow you down and savor it.
5. Keep your gut happy by giving it probiotics. This can be in the supplement form, which I personally do, or through foods like yogurt, kombucha, sauerkraut, kimchi
